| Description:
Laddie has lots of love to give and there is lots of Laddie to love! This handsome boy came to MWCR as a very chubby boy, but his foster mom has been watching his diet and working with him on an exercise program, and the pounds are beginning to melt away. He still has a ways to go before he is in swimsuit condition, but that's okay because swimsuit season won't be here any time soon. Fortunately, he is a picky eater who only likes canned food and isn't constantly trying to raid the pantry.
Laddie's foster mom describes him as the “perfect” collie. He is a well behaved, mellow, gentle boy who adores being petted and follows her around like a furry shadow. He loves people and welcomes everyone he meets with a wagging tail and a loving heart. His foster home does not include children, but when Laddie meets kids during his walks, he is thrilled to see them. He also likes the other dogs he meets and lived most of his life with another collie. He and the resident cat have agreed to disagree. When he first arrived the cat was hostile toward Laddie, who responded by trying to hide, head first, in a corner. He has since begun to stand up for himself by growling and barking when the cat tries to tease him. He would probably be happiest in a feline free environment. Laddie and his collie sibling were surrendered to MWCR when their owner went into a nursing home. He had lived his entire life as an outdoor dog, but now that he has had a taste of indoor living, he much prefers it. He is fully house trained, although he does not “ask” to go outside. His foster mom leaves him alone 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and he has been the perfect house guest with no accidents and no destructive behavior. He does not like a crate, but there is really no need to crate him. He knows his name, will come when called, and also knows “sit” and “no.” Laddie walks nicely on his leash and his foster mom takes him for daily walks as part of his weight loss program. Initially, he would tire after only a few blocks, but as he loses weight, he is gaining in strength and endurance. He still struggles with stairs, however, and would prefer a forever home that did not include lots of them. He is nervous on slippery floors, so his foster mom puts down scatter rugs for him to walk on. Laddie is a special, loving boy who will make an ideal companion for almost any one. He would be a gentle friend for children and an easy going buddy for another dog. A fenced yard would be desirable, but not mandatory. He will definitely need a family that will commit to continuing his weight loss plan, since it is important for him to reach a healthy weight. He is a laid back, gentle dog who will probably never want to run a marathon, but who will always be ready for a love-in! |
