Description:
Kyser is a happy, bouncy, fun-loving, little lap collie. Of course at 40+ pounds, he is a bit large for a lap dog, but don't tell him that because there is nothing that he likes better than to hop up in his person's lap and put his head on their shoulder. He is initially a little shy with strangers – particularly men – but once he gets to know you he is completely devoted.
Kyser's background includes a home in which he was bullied by several larger dogs, so he has a healthy fear of dogs. His foster mom has consulted a behaviorist/trainer who believes that with consistent work he could learn to be less fearful of his canine colleagues, but it would probably be best if his forever home did not include other dogs. This would also allow him to be the center of his family's attention – a situation that he would dearly love. He really likes cats, so a feline companion or two would be fine.
Kyser is a well mannered little guy who is fully house trained and can be left alone without any destructive behavior. He is also crate trained, though there is really no need to crate him. He loves to go for car rides and is a good passenger, particularly if he is allowed to ride shot-gun. He also likes to go for walks, though his shy nature sometimes causes him to stop dead if he sees some perceived threat. He is not hyper-active, but he has plenty of energy for walks and playtime. His favorite game is to play fetch with either a tennis ball or a frisbee, and if his people won't play with him, he will entertain himself by dropping the ball down the stairs and then running down after it. Ideally, he would like a fenced yard where he could play his games in safety.
Loud or sudden noises frighten Kyser, so he should not live in a household that includes young children, though adolescents or teenagers who would play ball with him would be fine. He also reacts to mechanical noises like a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner and will bark and lunge at them. He is somewhat nervous during thunderstorms (who isn't) but when he wears his thunder shirt he is much more comfortable.
Kyser is a big bundle of love in a small package. His ideal forever home would be one where he could be the center of his family's attention: playing ball, going for walks or rides, and then snuggling up on the couch with his people to watch Animal Planet. Older kids and cats would be okay as long as they understand that Kyser is the real apple of his humans' eye.
