Post-Adoption Update: October 19, 2009 When Max and Jasmine left for their forever home, they were already a loving pair of collies who were thoroughly devoted to one another. However, because Max was a “larger than life” boy who weighed in at a hefty 100 pounds, he couldn’t really keep pace with the svelte, fun loving Jasmine. Fortunately for these two friends, they went to the perfect forever home.

Max’s new mom discovered that he suffered from hypothyroidism and now has him on medication. The combination of medicine, exercise and a loving mom who supplements his dog food with some dog-healthy, home cooking has resulted in a 13 pound weight loss for Max. He and Jasmine have three fenced acres to play in and now that there is less of him, Max is much more willing and able to frolic with his best friend.

In addition to her more active buddy, Jasmine also plays with her many toys and the agility equipment at her new home. She particularly loves to play in the tunnel and after running through it, she sometimes turns around and runs back the way she came. Although this wouldn’t work in agility competition, it sure is fun!

Both Jasmine and Max spend lots of time enjoying their fenced acres, but at the end of the day, the thing they love most is cuddling with their new mom. They love being with her and being together. This is the perfect happy ending for everyone.

Description: Max is Jasmine’s big brother and may have taken that role a bit too literally, since he now weighs in at 100 pounds. He is truly a gentle giant who treats his sister and humans of all ages with great sweetness and care. His weight is not healthy for him, however, and his foster family has him on a glucosamine supplement and a reduced calorie diet to bring his weight down to a better level. In addition to diet, Max is also on a gradual exercise program and as he makes progress, his walks are becoming longer and more fast-paced. He still can’t keep up with his sister, but he is gaining on her.

Max is a quieter, more sedate collie than Jasmine and he greets strangers and anyone who comes to the door with a wagging tail and a welcoming woof. He knows “sit,” “stay” and “come” and walks nicely on his leash. He is fully housetrained and can be trusted alone in the house. Both Max and Jasmine consider the vacuum cleaner to be a machine possessed by evil spirits, so it is advisable to do your vacuuming while the two dogs are outside.

Max is something of a couch potato by nature, but with his foster mom taking him for walks and his sister urging him to play, we expect a more frolicsome collie to begin to emerge. He is a very well behaved, loving boy who is good about allowing his gorgeous, thick coat and full mane to be brushed.

Max is looking for a forever home that could include adults, older children, other dogs and cats, but that must include Jasmine. He adores his sis and when she goes out without him for her longer, high speed walk, he cries. He will need someone who will diligently continue his diet and exercise program so he can regain his boyish figure and keep pace with her. Max and his beautiful sister will bring a lifetime of love and joy to the family that is willing to keep these devoted siblings together.
