Post-Adoption Update: March 15, 2009
Sweet, nine year old Lucky has become such a wonderful member of our household in the two and a half months he has been here. I think if love could keep him going, he'd live to be 100. We've discovered many things about him--he doesn't like rain, puddles, deep snow, or wind, but he's always a good boy when he goes outside. We aren't fenced but we have several acres and he doesn't wander far. I have also learned that an unattended wastebasket with food in it should be set on the counter. Once I found the top piece of bread daintily removed from a sandwich when I left it on the table! Oh, and yesterday he rearranged a plate of cookies intended for a church event. (I counted, and none were missing.)
Lucky loves everyone who comes to the house, especially the grandchildren--all sizes and ages. He is so big--some think we have a pony in the house, but he is very unobtrusive and quiet. He enjoys car rides and traveled well on a trip to Florida.
He has had two trips to the groomer and looks magnificent when he comes home. They have noted an improvement in his coat already. What a beautiful collie boy! I only wish he could handle the staircase to join us upstairs at night. We're giving him a glucosamine supplement, hoping to help with his stiffness.
Lucky is a perfect match for us and we are grateful for all the wonderful volunteers at MWCR for their compassionate service.
Description:
Lucky is a large, intact, 9 year old tri-color male who currently tips the scales at a sizable 112 lbs, yet does not appear obese. Friendly to one and all, even the cat, this gentle giant of a dog enjoys the company of people and particularly of children. This collie's adopters will be lucky, too, as he is very well-behaved. He is house trained, not a counter surfer, rarely barks and sleeps on the floor wherever you tell him to. He enjoys being outside with others and doesn't wander far. While this easygoing boy would be a good addition to almost any household, Lucky's ideal home would include a good sized yard.
