Description:
Sweet, adaptable Dusty was a matted mess when her recently deceased owner's family took her to the vet to be euthanized. After the kind vet contacted MWCR instead, Dusty's life changed dramatically in short order. She went from living outdoors to having a safe, comfortable place in a foster home. She was shaved close to the skin to remove the mats and a beautiful new coat began grow. Her teeth were cleaned and four were removed. Dusty also was treated for Lyme disease and is expected to make a full recovery. Though she was an outdoor dog before she came to MWCR, Dusty is perfectly housebroken and can be trusted in the house. She is estimated to be 10 - 12 years old, but she still has the playful nature of a younger dog.
Dusty has a few conditions that didn't change with her residence. One is her osteoarthritis, which causes her to limp and show signs of stiffness in her hind quarter. This also affects Dusty's ability to climb stairs and she occasionally needs help rising from the floor. Because of this, Dusty would do best in a situation that does not require her to climb many stairs. Dusty also appears to have had multiple litters of pups at some point in the past.
A happy girl, Dusty gets along well with the two resident dogs in her foster home and she likes the family's rabbit. While she has not yet been observed around cats and has had limited contact with other dogs, her sweet, non-aggressive nature suggest that she will get along well with most other animals. Dusty walks well on a leash, but she is not a wanderer and seems content to stay near her family when off-leash.
While Dusty has adjusted to her foster home very well in a short time, she is looking for a forever home that will show her kindness and give her a gentle boost when she needs one. Is your home the one for her?
