Description: A typical comet speeds across the night sky like a bolt of lightning. Our Comet moves a little more slowly, but he will streak into your heart in no time at all. Comet is a handsome, mature, smooth collie boy with a shiny, easy care coat. He has striking white and blue merle markings and unlike his rough coated, Lassie-like cousins he doesn’t require frequent grooming though he does enjoy being bathed and brushed.

Comet has behaved beautifully in his foster home and his foster mom feels no need to crate him when she goes out, since he has perfect house manners and is fully house broken. Comet tells his foster mom that he needs a potty break by giving her a long, meaningful stare. If she doesn’t catch on quickly enough, he follows up the stare with a low growl (not an aggressive growl, more a grumble that says “Hey! When you gotta go, you gotta go!”) He is a very easy going boy, who is friendly, obedient and well behaved. He knows several commands including “sit,” “come” and “lie down” and walks well on a leash. He rarely barks (always a big plus with a collie) and has shown none of the typical collie “herding” behaviors such as mouthing and nipping. Comet is simply an all around, wonderful dog.

As a more mature collie, Comet is not comfortable with long flights of stairs and would do best in a home with limited steps. He also needs a little help jumping into some cars, but rides well once he is in. He is in good health, though he has some nasal congestion that causes him to sneeze fairly frequently.

Comet pays little attention to other animals, either cats or dogs. He is very good with children of all ages and has met and played with more than a dozen kids since coming to his foster home. His behavior has been uniformly friendly and gentle.

Comet is a loving, happy, easy going boy who would fit beautifully into almost any home. Although a fence is always a plus, it wouldn’t be absolutely necessary for Comet since he has excellent recall on those occasions when he might wander from the confines of his yard. His forever home could include cats and other dogs, though he wouldn’t be the ideal playmate for a very young, active dog. His gentle, calm manner would make him a wonderful companion for respectful children. Comet is a good boy who is ready to light up the lives of a loving, forever family.
