New to Rescue!
Joey is a rough collie, but was shaved due to severe matting.
This handsome boy really gets around! Although we don't know exactly where his journey began, he was found wandering near Jamestown, North Dakota and was taken to a shelter. At that time he was so matted that until the groomer shaved him, the shelter didn't know if they had a Joey or a Josephine. From Jamestown, Joey was taken to a temporary MWCR foster home in Watertown, South Dakota where he charmed everyone: the people, the other dogs, even the cats. But Joey's travels were not finished; his long-term foster mom picked him up and brought him to Marshall, Minnesota where he will be fostered until he finds his forever home.
Originally, Joey was estimated to be about five years old, but it is possible he is an older gentleman. He is neutered and quite tall for a collie. Even with most of his fur gone (don't worry, it will grow back), he weighs about 75 pounds and could afford to gain a few more. He is scheduled for some dental work, but is otherwise healthy. He is fully house trained and very well behaved in the house, however he is unfamiliar with stairs and will only take a few at a time. Joey likes his doggy bed and doesn't try to climb up on the furniture. He will sit and stay on command and walks well on a leash.
Joey's foster mom says that if his name wasn't Joey, it would be Gentle Ben. He is such a mellow, gentle guy. He is good with other dogs and with cats, and when he goes for a walk he is immediately drawn to any children that he encounters. He is so gentle and easy going that he would probably be great with even young children.
Joey has come a long way from Jamestown, North Dakota, but he is ready to pack his bags and make one more trip. He is excited to move on to his forever home where he can be some lucky family's devoted companion. Once that happens, Joey doesn't ever want to travel again!
Joey is being fostered in Marshall, Minnesota.
