Update: January 30, 2010 If Ally looks a little puzzled, it is because she still hasn’t found her forever home and can’t understand why. We can’t either because this little girl is a complete sweetheart: well behaved, healthy, happy and as cute as they come. She is housetrained, crate trained and when you ask her to sit, she also raises her little paw to shake. When she first came to her foster home, she did pull on her leash, but now that her foster mom is using a special harness, she is doing much better.

Ally loves everyone she meets: adults, children and other dogs. In her former home she lived with a toddler and was very gentle. She is always ready to run and play with other dogs, and though she is usually a proper little lady, she becomes a real tom boy when rough housing with her doggie playmates. If her forever home includes another dog or two, they should be active and playful like Ally and not afraid to tell her when they have had enough. Like most dogs, she likes to bark during play, but in the house she is usually very quiet. Since she has a deep, booming bark, it is quite a blessing that she usually only barks indoors when someone comes to the door.

If Ally has any shortcomings, it is that she doesn’t do well on longer car trips. (Hey, nobody’s PERFECT!) She is always eager to get in the car, but after any distance, she becomes nervous and gets car sick. She is fine with short trips and it is possible that she could take longer trips if she was given Dramamine and gradually conditioned to longer distances.

Although she loves to play, Ally also loves to snuggle up with her family in the evenings. She relishes petting, and there is nothing more soothing than stroking her soft, warm fur at the end of a busy day.

So, if you are not planning any cross country road trips, but are looking for a playful, fun-loving companion who will give you her whole heart and soul, Ally is waiting for you to take her home.

Description: December 24th is a special day for Ally – not just because it is Christmas Eve, but because it is also her birthday. Last year Ally was spending her birthday with a family who loved and cared for her. Sadly, her family had to move to a place where Ally couldn’t come along, and they reluctantly surrendered her to MWCR. She has made a wonderful transition to her foster home, but she is still hoping that some time soon, she will have a forever home of her very own.

Ally is a petite little girl (just 22 inches at the shoulder), but she packs a lot of charm, energy and fun in her compact body. She has a white tip at the end of her tail which acts like a beacon, wagging wildly when she is happy (which is pretty much all the time) and making her easy to spot in her yard after dark. She absolutely loves everyone she meets: men, women, children of all ages and other dogs. She greets other dogs with a happy invitation to play and when meeting new people, she is so excited to see them that she can’t keep herself from jumping up. Her foster mom is working with her on this, and she definitely does less jumping with her family, but her forever home will need to continue her training.

Ally is a smart girl who is motivated both by food and praise. She is housetrained and crate trained, though she is so well behaved that her foster mom has found no reason to crate her. According to her former family, she can be left alone for up to nine hours. Ally knows several basic commands, her recall is pretty good, and she learned the ins and outs of the doggie door in record time. Although she is not tall, she has amazing reach when there are tasty treats left on the counters, and her forever family will have to make sure that temptations are not left too near the edge.

Ally loves to play in her fenced yard (four feet high) and she would ideally like a forever home that included a fence or regular visits to the dog park where she could play with the other dogs and run like the wind. She likes to go for walks, but tends to pull on the leash. She would like to have either another energetic dog or active children to play with. Her prior family included a toddler, and Ally was very gentle with the little one. She has also been the canine liaison between her foster family and a new foster dog that exhibits extreme fear, exhibiting terrific dog whispering skills to help him adjust.

At the end of a busy day of romping in the yard, Ally likes nothing better than to snuggle up with her people. She has a beautiful, soft, low maintenance coat, and she loves to be petted. She is quiet in the house, rarely barking unless she sees wildlife in her yard or hears someone at the door. Then she makes a great watchdog, since her deep, booming bark sounds like it belongs to a much bigger dog than Ally.

Ally is a happy, fun-loving little sweetheart who would make a wonderful companion for almost any family. Although she loves everyone at her foster home, her Christmas wish is that her next birthday will find her snuggled up with her very own people, in her very own forever home.
